International Childcare Trust, in conjunction with Action Challenge, is organising its first ever United Kingdom-based Cycle Challenge! Be among the first to register for this classic challenge!
The ICT Cycle Coast to Coast 2010 challenge will be held from 17th to 20th June, across the UK from Whitehaven in the west, across the Cumbrian Mountains and the Pennines, then down the coast to Sunderland. We have chosen this route for the beautiful scenery with a route of cycle trails and minor roads. Check out the itinerary below or download it in PDF form:

DAY 1 / Thursday / WHITEHAVEN BAY
After a transfer by coach, we meet up in the evening at our hotel in the coastal town of Whitehaven Bay. It was here that coal was shipped to Dublin in the 1700’s, tobacco arrived from America and rum from the West Indies making it, in its heyday, Britain’s third busiest port. After a welcome meal and event briefing, we have an early night in preparation for the challenge ahead.
DAY 2 / Friday / PENRITH / 51 Miles
We have an early start as our morning’s cycle takes us from Whitehaven, over the river Derwent several times and up onto Wythop Woods and descending to the beautiful lakeland town of Keswick for lunch. In the afternoon we climb above Ullswater and onto Troutbeck, leaving us an easy descent into Penrith for the night.
DAY 3 / Saturday / ALLENHEADS / 40 Miles
After a good breakfast we start our ride out of Penrith. Although we have a shorter distance to cover today it is probably the hardest section of the challenge. The big climb today is up to Hartside Summit at 580m. The rest of the afternoon will be challenging cycling over the Pennines to our accommodation in Allenheads. After a tough day of cycling we rest our weary legs, ready for the final push tomorrow.
DAY 4 / Sunday / ROKER / 45 Miles
Our final day of the challenge is long buta bit easier. We start with a climb out of Allenheads, but then over a distance of 37 miles we descend from 500m all the way to sea level. Once we arrive at our final destination of Roker on the east coast, we dip our front wheels into the sea and, for those who dare, take a swim to celebrate! We then load up the vehicles and jump onto the coach for our evening journey home.
