SUMMER TENNIS TOURNAMENT 1st June

Summer Tennis Tournament
Louise Jones organised a Tennis tournament in Holland Park on Sunday 1st June raising nearly £1,000 for ICT. Despite a showery start to the day, the clouds parted just in time for the 10am kick-off. The standard of tennis was surprisingly high despite a few hangovers amongst the crew of around 30 players, which included Graeme Conway, Sarah Foster and Louise Jones who have all cycled with ICT former cycle trips. The tournament winners were doubles couple Pete Beckhouse and Andrew Heaney, followed closely by Graeme Conway and Warren Bath. The tournament was superbly organised by Rodney Rapsom of Highgate Tennis Club.

The tennis was followed by a lunch at the Academy in Princedale Road where the staff pulled out all the stops to ensure a great afternoon was had by all. A raffle was held, top prizes being a ‘top of the range’ racket contributed by Rodney Rapson and a meal for two at Gaucho in Piccadilly Circus contributed by Gaucho Restaurants. Much wine was drunk by all and Monday morning unsurprisingly saw a few hazy heads. Thanks to all the tennis crew for their continuing support of ICT.

MUSIC FROM THE WEMA CENTRE IN KENYA

Maisha Mema CD

Make a Change CD

Children from one of ICT's partner projects, the Wema Centre in Kenya, have recorded two CD albums of music over the past few years.

Their first CD was titled "Maisha Mema" and was sold throughout Kenya, where it sold exceptionally well. After this the children were encouraged to refine their talents and have since performed at leading local and national events.

A new CD, "Make a Change", has been been recorded and both CDs are available from the Wema Centre Trust website.

ICT RAISES £30,000 AT CHRISTIE'S CONTEMPORARY ART AUCTION 12th March

Over £30,000 was raised for International Childcare Trust (ICT) at an art auction held at Christie's on 12th March and attended by many from the alternative investment industry, through the auctioning of 18 works of contemporary art.

The auction and sale was organised by The Art Movement and by ICT's Trustee, Simon Hill, Chief Executive of Letterstone plc with the of 4 other corporate sponsors; Baronsmead, IGS Group, Kroll and Albemarle. Christie's kindly hosted the event, with auctioneer James Bruce-Gardyne encouraging generous bids from participants.

The success of the auction has prompted hopes that it will become an annual event, and the amount raised is hugely significant to a charity of ICT's size.

Richard Fallowfield, Chairman of International Childcare Trust, commented: "The ICT believes that every child should have the opportunity to enjoy their childhood, and fulfill their potential. The funds raised by the Art Movement Auction and Sale will further enable some of the world's most vulnerable children to achieve this. We are extremely grateful to the artists who donated their work to the auction and to the companies who have sponsored this event. Their support means that the ICT can give every penny raised from the auction directly to charity."
