| In 2009, International Childcare Trust entered in to partnership with the Guardian newspaper in their International Development Journalism competition. The project assisted aspiring journalists to publish articles which could highlight some of the most crucial issues occurring in developing countries today.
The journalists were judged on a single piece of writing by a panel of judges who included Guardian writers and editors and also journalists and newsreaders such as Jon Snow and Natasha Kaplinsky. The successful journalists (8 professional and 8 amateurs) were given the opportunity to travel abroad to the projects of partnership organisations on assignment, to write about key development issues of the area.
In September 2009, Candida Beveridge and Cynara Vetch, were chosen to visit one of ICT’s partners to write an article for the Guardian newspaper.
Having been selected from hundreds of entrants on the strength of their submissions, Candida and Cynara were then flown to Uganda and Cambodia, respectively, to visit ICT’s partner’s KICWA and M’Lop Tapang, interviewing a variety of people and organisations within the country to gather research for their final articles. Cynara’s article on street children in Cambodia and Candida’s jaw-dropping article on the fate of Uganda’s child soldiers were featured in the Guardian supplement on the 21st and 23rd November. Congratulations to both of them!
As well as the two articles which appeared in the Guardian, Candida Beveridge's trip to Uganda resulted in two stories on the BBC World Service which can be listened to at:

The stories are called, 'Uganda's Children of War: No Way Back' and 'Uganda's Children of War: A Clean Start.'
